PMQs: MAY MUST END BREXIT CHARADE
Ian Blackford MP has called on the Prime Minister to end her ‘charade’ and support membership of the EEA and Customs Union when the UK leaves the European Union.
During Prime Minister’s Questions, the SNP Westminster Leader said Theresa May should vote for the Lords amendments next week on the EU Withdrawal Bill.
Ian Blackford’s question follows the publication of dire predictions from the Tories’ own DExEU Government Department – outlining the likely effects on food, medicine and fuel supplies if there is a no deal Brexit- something that many Tories still advocate.
Commenting, Ian Blackford MP said:
“Supermarkets running out of food within days. Hospitals running out of medicine within a fortnight. Petrol reserves dwindling after just two weeks. These are the concerns of DExEU officials, and now the Dutch Government are telling Dutch businesses not to risk buying UK products.
“The Prime Minister must understand the catastrophic negotiating position she has cornered herself into.
“We are less than a year from Brexit, and we still have no deal with the EU and no focus on getting the least worst outcome for families and businesses.
“Jobs have been an afterthought, the Irish border has been afterthought, the economy – at all costs – has been an afterthought. While the Leader of the opposition is playing games, the Prime Minister must stop her charade and vote for the Lords amendments next week for membership of the EEA and Customs Union.”
