UK GOVERNMENT CANNOT ALLOW TRUMP’S BIGOTRY TO GO UNCHALLENGED
SNP Westminster Leader Ian Blackford MP has marked the anniversary of the Srebrenica massacre at PMQs today and has added that with the growth of right wing populist bigotry and growing intolerance in many parts of the world today – we must all be ‘constantly vigilant’ about repeating horrors of the past.
Ian Blackford MP said :
‘’Today is the 23rd anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide. Yesterday I witnessed the heart-breaking testimony of two survivors of these heinous crimes against humanity Dr Ilijaz Pilav and Nusreta Sivac. Today we all must remember the victims who were tortured, raped and murdered.
‘’Will the Government bring forward a debate to put on record our united position that we remember and to discuss what measures we can take to help make sure that genocide such as this can never ever be allowed to happen again.’’
Ian Blackford added :
‘’Anniversaries such as these should make us constantly vigilant about the growth of extremism – of totalitarian leaders and of intolerance and bigotry wherever it arises. The world we live in today is still a dangerous one.
‘’Tomorrow the President of the United States of America regretfully touches down in the UK. The welcome will be far from warm with protests planned across Scotland and the UK against President Trump’s abhorrent policies and dangerous rhetoric.
‘‘The UK government must give us a commitment that President Trump will be challenged on his abysmal record on human rights, his repugnant attitude towards women and his disgusting treatment of minorities rather than simply rolling out the red carpet.”
